Why You Should Write A Book (Even Though It’s The Most Random Idea You’ve Heard This Week)

It may sound like the most random marketing idea you’ve heard all week (stay with me here, it isn’t!) but publishing a book can be a great way to help you succeed in your business or career.

Here are just a few reasons why there can be many more benefits to writing and publishing your own book than you might think:

It gives you real credibility.

Becoming a published author, even in a small way, gives you credibility with a capital C! It says to potential contacts, clients and colleagues …. here’s a person who’s knowledgeable about their subject or eminent in their field.

(It’s a great way of getting one up on your contemporaries or competitors too!)

It acts as a brochure for your business.

Except that it is much more effective than any brochure could ever be. Showcasing your skills, knowledge, experience and talents in a non-hard selling way like a book is a very effective way of showing potential clients what you’ve done and what you can do.

In practice publishing a book can be a very effective form of content marketing. You can sell to your prospects without them realising they’ve been ‘sold’ – always the most effective form of selling!

It can generate you publicity …. for free.

When you publish a book details of it will automatically be listed in library and book trade catalogues. It will be listed on Amazon, and in other online bookstores. It will most likely turn up in Google searches. You can blog, Facebook or Twitter it.

You might even get press, TV and radio coverage as a result. Just one press review of your book can bring new leads and enquiries flooding in. A TV or radio interview to chat about your book could bring publicity worth £thousands.

Within a short time your name and your business could be in hundreds of places all over the Internet without spending a penny on ads.

It can be very cost effective.

Although it’s true that publishing a book involves some outlay you can recoup some or all of that by selling copies. You may even be able to turn a profit on sales.

What other method of marketing will pay for itself like that?

It’s not even that difficult to do anymore.

Gone are the days when you need to print (and pay for) thousands of copies in advance. You can use modern print on demand publishing, or even publish your book as an ebook or Kindle book.
